A Multidisciplinary Approach to Gynecologic Cancer Care

Established in 2009, our team includes fellowship-trained, board-certified gynecologic oncologic/pelvic surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and social workers, as well as a dedicated administrative staff committed to quality care for you and your family during this challenging time.

Patients of WMCHealth Physicians have access to multidisciplinary and integrated oncology treatment accessible under one division. We have treatment options for all types of gynecologic cancers, including minimally invasive, robotic and radical surgery, as well as chemotherapy and targeted therapies. We also offer radiation therapy and chemotherapy in outpatient infusion services and renovated inpatient rooms.

Our Palliative Care Team offers support aimed at relieving the symptoms of serious illnesses, including gynecologic cancer. The team works closely with your Gynecologic Oncologist to ensure treatment options and related information are communicated in a timely, effective manner. The team also can help manage disease symptoms and treatment-related side effects.

Our Survivorship Program is offered to patients once they have completed their cancer treatment and are considered in remission. The program focuses on four overarching topics: management of treatment-related toxicities, psychosocial well-being, preventive health maintenance, and health promotion. Survivorship care typically includes management of side effects due to cancer therapies, distress management and social support, counseling on screening recommendations for other cancers and healthy lifestyle habits, sexual health education, and physical exam and diagnostic testing as needed. Referrals can be made to other healthcare experts such as dieticians, physical therapists, behavioral health providers, genetic counselors and social workers.

Our Social Worker provides complex care coordination within the WMCHealth Network. The social worker helps to conduct comprehensive bio-psychosocial-spiritual assessments and assists in the creation and implementation of interdisciplinary treatment plans for our patients diagnosed with cancer, as well as for their supportive family members. The social worker will create individualized, evidence-based support to help patients handle the impact of cancer diagnosis, hospitalization, treatment, and post-treatment care.

Genetic Testing

We follow national guidelines for genetic testing. All patients undergo rigorous testing with a genetic counselor. Tumor testing helps your care team outline a personalized, targeted therapy plan that works best for you.

Driving Excellence With Clinical Research and Education

Our division collaborates with other nationwide cancer researchers on clinical trials funded by the National Cancer Institute to better delineate treatment protocols for all types of gynecologic cancers. We provide access to recent clinical research, along with collaborative care with experts in radiology, pathology, palliative care, pain services and radiation therapy.

We believe in continual education. By training others in women’s health, we hope to ensure that future generations of women receive excellent clinical care. We also keep current with research and advances in our field. Medical students, residents and fellows in various stages of training specifically elect to learn from our team.

We know that being referred to a cancer center or requiring a complex operation can be life-changing. We want to comfort you that by choosing the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Robotic Surgery as part of your healthcare team, you and your family will experience the type of care we would provide our families and loved ones. Conditions We Treat

Gynecologic oncology diagnoses and treats the five main cancers that originate in women’s reproductive organs—ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal and vulvar. Each year, almost 82,000 American women are diagnosed with one of these conditions.

Fortunately, many of these cancers are highly treatable and even curable with the comprehensive, multidisciplinary preventive and treatment approach employed by Westchester Medical Center’s Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Robotic Surgery.
