During Your CT Scan

The CT scan process is painless. Here is what to expect on exam day:

  • CT scans of your head require that you remove all jewelry, hair pins, etc.
  • You will need to don a patient gown if you are undergoing a CT scan of your chest, abdomen, or pelvis.
  • If your exam requires a contrast agent, which improves organ visibility in certain tests, you will be asked to sign a consent form.
  • You will be positioned on the table for the scan and an I.V. will be started, if required.
  • Once the table is moved into the scanner, your exam will begin. The technologist will instruct you on how and when to hold your breath.
  • During the exam, the table will move very gently and slowly.
  • You will be assisted off the table once the exam is complete and you will be able to change and leave.
  • The results of your exam will be forwarded to your referring physician who will be responsible for explaining them to you.

Plan to arrive 30 minutes early to complete the registration process.
