Howard A. Cooper MD specializes in critical care cardiology. Dr. Cooper came to Westchester Medical Center in 2012 after 12 years at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he was Director of the Coronary Care Unit. At Westchester Medical Center, he currently serves as Director of Inpatient Cardiology Services, Director of the Coronary Care Unit, and Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the New York Medical College.

Dr. Cooper has significant expertise in clinical research in areas relating to acute cardiovascular illness. Previous and ongoing research relates to cardiogenic shock, intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation, and infective endocarditis. This work has led to multiple scientific publications in major medical journals, including Circulation, The Lancet, and The New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Cooper has special interests in the use of therapeutic hypothermia in survivors of cardiac arrest and in the care of patients with infective endocarditis.
